Newborn Photos at Home or in the Studio?

The time has come, your pregnancy is starting to move quickly and in less than a minute you’ll be in the next trimester or have birthed your beautiful baby. Now is the time to get on the books with your favourite family and newborn photographer. I have written a questionnaire to help you decide between beautiful newborn photographs in studio or at home. My studio is located in the picturesque Samford Valley near Brisbane, for in home sessions I service the entire Brisbane and Sunshine Coast area.

Each type of newborn photoshoot with me has a lifestyle edge, each have their benefits and beauty and EVERY newborn shoot is unique to your family! Why don’t you do both? Okay, so that might be a bit luxurious, so let’s help you decide between the two if it’s not a clear decision for you.

Grab a notepad or your phone and jot down an answer to these ten questions below. Write down A or B, if you are completely split on an answer or it is addressing something you don’t mind either way, don’t record an answer for that question.

1.

Try imagine you’ve just had a baby, in the first three weeks when they are tiny and new, this is a great time to photograph them. They are curly, squishy and sleepy. Sleepy, squishy newborn photos are more difficult to create after the first three weeks. Do you love the sleepy, itty-bitty newborn photos?

A YES

B NOT ESSENTIAL

2.

Do you imagine when you’re home with your new baby you would enjoy being hosted by me and getting out of the house. Or do you imagine you’d prefer a morning getting ready and I arrive with your coffee in hand, ready to photograph your family in the comfort of your home.

A BEING HOSTED

B STAYING HOME

3.

Does your home have a large sentimental value and would you like it recorded in these newborn memories?

A NO

B YES

4.

When you look at photographs from your childhood, are you drawn to the photos that you can see snippets of a home that you no longer remember well, seeing an old favourite toy or furniture from a time gone by.

A YES

B NOT PARTICULARLY

5.

What do you envisage to be the end result of these photos, how do you imagine them to be used?

A Printed art for the walls.

B A gorgeous heirloom album.

6.

Would you like to be fully styled and use the client wardrobe or use your own clothes and maybe one or two pieces from the client wardrobe?

A Fully styled

B My own or a mix

*This option is available for both but easier at my studio.

7.

Would you like pets included in your newborn session.

A NO

B YES

8.

Have you invested time and energy into renovating or decorating your nursery?

A NO

B YES

9.

Do you have other children that you think will be more comfortable and at ease to be themselves at home?

A NO

B YES

*All children are included in both but some children are more suited to home sessions.

10.

Is there a definite type of image of mine that you’re drawn to?

A Always the studio photos and films

B Yes, the photos and films in family homes

MOSTLY A’s Studio Newborn may be the best option for your family.

MOSTLY B’s An In Home Newborn session may be the best option for your family.

SAME NUMBER of A’s and B’s, it’s time for you to decide, gauge what’s more important, which place you will feel more comfortable, which type of memories would you prefer and what images draw you in more.

Ideally newborn sessions are pencilled in to my calendar in your second or third trimester to ensure you don’t miss out, the session date remains flexible as I know babies don’t stick to their due dates and lots of things can happen in the first couple of weeks. However it is also never too late to contact me, even if your baby has been born. This time is fleeting and precious, get in touch now!
